Art Classes at Edendale Community Farm

Join one of our fun and engaging drawing and painting classes which will be held in the historic homestead building at Edendale Community Environment Farm in Eltham, Victoria.

Discover the joy of creating art from scratch with our expert tutor Dr Tamara Jordan who is currently an artist in residence at Edendale Farm.

 

In our supportive art classes for beginners you can creating art in an  inspiring environment and experiment with new techniques while making new friends along the way.

After the class you can stroll around the farm, have a cup of coffee or tea and Tamara will show you her favourite spots and animals.

Watercolour Painting For Beginners

Come along to our watercolour workshop for beginners at Edendale Farm and enjoy a relaxed morning of creativity!

 

Learn the basic aspects of creating beautiful illustrations with watercolours, such as transparency levels, water control, gradients, colour theory, and how to use the brush with greater control to achieve fine details

 

.Once you have understood the basics, it's time to learn some expert tricks by mixing the watercolours with other materials to achieve interesting effects!

 

Finally, you will get the chance to create a complex illustration applying the techniques you liked the most. We will explore the variety of beautiful indigenous plants at Edendale farm and you can use it as an inspiration for your artwork if you like.

 

You will be guided by our expert tutor Dr Tamara Jordan and in a relatively short time you can take home a watercolour artwork you’re proud of!

  • Basic techniques

  • Essential principles of colour theory

  • Glaze, wash, brush, and sketching techniques

  • Colour mixing

  • Expert mixing techniques for unique effects

Manga Character Drawing Class for Kids and Teens

Dive into the fantastic world of anime illustration and learn how to create unique manga characters!

Have you ever wanted to design your own manga character?

 

Join our manga class this school holiday and learn how to create intriguing manga characters from simple pencil sketches to more complex ink and brush-pen illustrations.

 

In this class, you will learn how to design compelling Japanese-inspired manga characters from scratch and how to give them their unique style with our expert tutor and artist in residence Dr Tamara Jordan.

When: Friday 23 January 2025, 2pm -4pm 

 

What to bring:

  • You only need to bring basic material such as a sketch pad (A4) and pencils.

  • Bring a bottle of water and a snack if you like!

Wildlife & Botanical Illustration

Saturday 7 March 2026

11am to 1pm

In this workshop, you will learn how to draw wildlife and nature using observational and visual interpretation skills in an enjoyable and effective way.

 

Learn essential drawing skills that will help you create accurate and stunning illustrations of subjects of the natural world. You will study animals and plants from photo references and real-life examples.

 

No matter your level of skill or experience, you'll be guided through the process of creating wildlife and nature drawings from scratch. Each class includes practical and theoretical instruction, along with plenty of time to put your new knowledge into practice.

 

We will use a range of different materials starting with simple pencil sketches to more advanced illustrations using coloured pencil, charcoal, pastels and ink.

 

Australia’s natural world is a fascinating place, being able to capture it through the process of drawing provides insights into life that can expand our knowledge and change how we think about ourselves and our environment.

Drawing Foundation Class

Dive into the wonderful world of drawing and discover the joy of creating art from scratch with expert tutor Dr Tamara Jordan. Embrace your unique style and unleash your creativity in the relaxing and inspiring environment at Edendale farm.

 

Through demonstrations, exercises, and one-to-one tuition, you will be supported in developing your individual way of observing, imagining, and drawing.

 

This class is developed for beginners and is perfect for anyone who ever wanted to learn to draw or for artists with prior experience who want to learn more about the fundamentals of drawing.

Tamara will guide you through small projects and you will get the opportunity to draw from a range of references: still life scenes, photographs and outside in nature ( if the weather allows it).

You only need to bring basic materials to your class such as: drawing sketch pad, set of graphite pencils, eraser.

 

Beginner-friendly course, Ages 18+.
